During and after breast augmentation surgery

• Breast augmentation is performed by a specialized plastic surgery team mostly under general anesthesia. So you will be unconscious during the surgery and won’t feel anything. The process takes about 1 to 1.5 hours.
• The plastic surgeon makes an incision over a natural skin fold, also known as a crease or fold under the breast, to hide the incision line. However, an incision can be made in the areola or armpit, if needed. Your plastic surgeon will decide the location of the incision and inform you before surgery.
• Next, a pocket or cavity is created between the breast and the rib cage, and the breast implant is placed in this pocket according to the plastic surgeon’s plan.
• Finally, the implant is positioned, the incision is sutured and the breast(s) covered with a gauze bandage. If necessary, your plastic surgeon may place small tubes, also known as drains, which are removed at your first follow-up visit.
• Saline or silicone implants are used for breast augmentation. You will be notified prior to surgery of the implant type, shape, size and surface features and the best implant will be selected in line with your condition, preferences and the shape you are aiming to achieve.
• You may feel pain and swelling in the breast after the surgery. Or you may notice bruising on the skin of the breast. These are expected symptoms that will disappear spontaneously within several weeks, and the scar tissue that forms along the incision line will fade over time.
• You will need to wear a compression bandage and wear a sports bra to support the breasts and ensure the correct position of the breast implants after surgery.
• Although you will feel a little pain, your plastic surgeon will prescribe painkillers to relieve the pain.
• Patients are usually discharged from the hospital on the same day after breast augmentation surgery. However, your plastic surgeon will tell you if you need monitoring or should stay in the hospital.
• After you recover from anesthesia and are ready to walk, you will be followed up by our medical staff under the supervision of our healthcare professionals.
• Before you are discharged from the hospital, your plastic surgeon will tell you how long you should rest and when you can start non-strenuous exercises. Although routine activities of daily living are allowed, your doctor will recommend that you avoid strenuous work for a certain period.
